The Possums Clinic was established in 2011, and became renowned for its care for mothers and babies. It was dedicated to seeing women with breastfeeding problems and discontented babies, and The Possums Clinic developed a reputation for caring for Mothers and Babies. The possums charity published a number of online resources, and supported the sales of The Possums Sleep Film and The Discontented Little Baby Book.

The Possums Clinic Is Established

The Possums Clinic was initially established in 2011 at UQ HealthCare in Annerley in Brisbane, and moved to Highgate Hill in 2013. During this period, the team invested enormous time and energy speaking at conferences and workshops to spread the word about the Possums Approach. Whilst the profile of the Possums Approach grew, the operations of the clinic fell on difficult times, with the doors threatening to close in 2017. It became clear that from pregnancy and birth, families desire and need genuine connection through life to optimise health, and the existing approach didn’t address this issue. It was recognised that an outstanding general practice was needed to provide the sort of quality operations and intergenerational care for families that our community deserves.

The Possums Clinic Rebrands

With the clinic struggling to remain viable, The Possums Clinic approached Grow Medical to take on the challenge of providing excellence in early life care, combined with the lifelong relationship provided by a quality general practice. And so, in 2017, The Possums Charity sold The Possums Clinic to Grow Medical. The Possums the Clinic has since been rebranded as part of Grow Medical, who operate a number of medical centres, and are now leading providers of support for mothers and babies, including early life care for breastfeeding, sleep, infant health, maternal mental health and sensory programs as the starting point of a comprehensive approach to lifelong healthcare.

Our mothers and babies service provides comprehensive breastfeeding assistance through our breastfeeding counsellors, midwives and lactation consultants. Need help on how to breastfeed? We offer free facilitated parent’s groups, as well as in clinic and home visiting lactation consultant services.
