Baby Tongue Tie Assessment & Support

If you have been told your baby has a tongue tie, or you are having difficulties with breastfeeding or feeding, our team at Growlife Medical Highgate Hill can help. A tongue tie, also known as ankyloglossia, is when the tissue under the tongue restricts its movement. In some babies, this can affect breastfeeding or feeding.


Tongue Tie Assessment

Our doctors will assess your baby and look at how the tongue is moving and how your baby is feeding. The appointment may include:

  • An examination of your baby's mouth and tongue
  • A discussion about your breastfeeding or feeding concerns
  • Observing your baby's feeding
  • Looking at other possible reasons for feeding difficulties
  • Providing breastfeeding and feeding advice
  • Discussing whether a frenotomy may be suitable


A frenotomy, also known as a tongue tie release, may be recommended when appropriate. Not every baby with a tongue tie needs a procedure, so a thorough assessment is important before deciding on treatment.


Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding difficulties can have a number of causes, and tongue tie is only one possibility. Our team can provide breastfeeding and feeding support and help you understand the options available for your baby.
