In a world where male role models are often lacking dimension, and the caring role of fathers is rarely emphasised, Grow Medical seeks to foster a discussion of how becoming a father changes a man’s approach to life. We want to hear how the emotions of modern men are expressed.

So, in 2019, Grow Medical is launching the Grow Medical Essay Competition, and the theme for our inaugural year is "Stories of Fatherhood". We will publish a number of stories from fathers who live in our community. We invite fathers of all ages to tell the story of the most emotional part of their life!

This year, we are partnering with The Beautiful Men Project to celebrate positive male role models. This resonates with us because:

“it is celebrating the beauty, strength and kindness of so many, many good men around us, and reminding ourselves and our children of the amazing things all members of our society can achieve and the hardships we can overcome.”

We would like to hear stories from fathers at all different life stages: new fathers, fathers whose children are leaving school, those becoming grandfathers, and those who have borne the loss of a child. We want to hear your diverse experiences, and make this a celebration of positivity, modern families, nurturing masculinity and resilience.

We will be shortlisting and publishing your stories throughout the year, with the three winning entries announced on Fathers Day 1 September 2019. In a nod to encouraging precious time with your family or partner, the prizes are vouchers to a restaurant of your choice in Brisbane. 1st Prize is $150, 2nd is $100 and 3rd is $50.

Ready to start writing? Your story must be less than 2,000 words, original, never before published, and submitted with the entry form to sherwood@growmedical.com.au. See the full terms and conditions on the entry form.

We look forward to reading and publishing your stories. Best of luck!
