Diabetes Clinic Brisbane | Growlife Medical Sherwood | Oxley | Highgate Hill

Calling all patients living with Type 2 Diabetes, either recently or previously diagnosed. You are invited to join Growlife Medical in Sherwood for a group program on the nutritional and lifestyle management of Type 2 Diabetes.


The program will be run by Jessica Cartwright, Accredited Practising Dietitian at Growlife Medical. Jessica has special interest in chronic disease management, including diabetes. She is passionate about helping patients to maintain their personal and lifestyle goals while living with Type 2 Diabetes. 


The program will run over four consecutive weeks. Each session will run for one hour and cover essential topics such as healthy eating habits, carbohydrate awareness, nutritional guidelines for Type 2 Diabetes, exercise, and how to manage eating out and special occasions. 


There will also be opportunities for flexible group discussion on topics relevant to you. This is an incredible opportunity to engage in flexible, evidence-based discussion with an Accredited Dietitian on your questions and concerns, as well as the chance to connect with, support and learn from others who are also living with Type 2 Diabetes.



  • Program Details

    Sessions: 4 sessions weekly

    Cost: $25 per session ($100 course total) 

    Rebate options: 

    - Patients may be eligible for a private health fund rebate, depending on level of cover. Please contact your health fund for details. 

    - Patients on an Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC) through their GP are eligible for a Medicare rebate of $17.45 per session (out of pocket $7.55).

    Session 1: 

    - What is Type 2 Diabetes? Definition, risk factors, health outcomes. 

    - Diet and Type 2 Diabetes – The five groups, carbohydrate awareness, identifying carbohydrates.

    - Which foods affect our blood sugar levels, and why? 


    Session 2: 

    - The Glycaemic Index - what is it, and how does it help with Type 2 Diabetes?

    - Carbohydrates - quality vs quantity; Recommended portion sizes for Type 2 Diabetes 

    - Planning healthy meals 

    - Great snack swaps for managing blood sugar levels 

    - Label reading 


    Session 3: 

    - Exercise and physical activity in Type 2 Diabetes 

    - How can I achieve my exercise goals? 

    - Safety recommendations in exercise 

    - Healthy eating for exercise and glycaemic control 


    Session 4: 

    - Eating out 

    - Holidays

    - Special occasions 

    - Illness 

    - Overcoming challenges and maintaining long term motivation
